I am trying to ask my g/f friend a couple of questions but I dont think that the online translators are helping.

I wanted to ask simple questions like:
do you know her from cusco?
I came up with
usted le conoce de cusco.

and something like:
Vanessa is a good friend of mine but I dont know any of her friends from cusco, so what can you tell me about her? what is she like at home? how would you describe her?

I would really appreciate it if someone could help me out with this. Thank you

Help on translating a Letter

I'm writing a letter to my cousin in El Salvador, and dont know how to translate the word "degree", as in "college degree". Please help (thanks).

Here is my sentence:

I'm very happy to hear that you want to get a degree.

Oh and how do you say "high school"? I think its "bachiyerato" or something like that, right?

Translating idiomatic English into Spanish, and vice versa

Hi,

It seems to me that the challenge of translating an idiomatic expression (with the essential if not the literal meaning intact) strikes to the heart of issues like grammar and syntax, as well as cultural understandings.

My particular problem today relates to the grammar/syntax side of things - with the example below I really want to retain the literal as well as the essential meaning. I would appreciate any assistance people can offer. I need to translate the English phrase, "Smile me your smile". As it is a poetic description, I'd like the translation to be as close as possible. The double use of 'smile' is purposeful, if unusual. The first appearance is verb-like and the second is as the usual noun. I'd like to capture this same relationship in my translation, if possible.

I have developed what I think are two likely possibilities that capture the meaning I want. However, I'm not sure which version, whilst true to my intention, more accurately reflects the correct Spanish grammar/syntax.

Version 1) "sonrÃas para mÃ su sonrisa", or "sonreÃas para mÃ su sonrisa"; and

Version 2) "su sonrisa a mÃ sonreÃr".

First I will try without a dictionary or translation tool:

Miro television pero estoy triste porque todos los canales son muy mal a esto momento. No me gusta nada porque...anti-nada(?? :) )... es muy aburido.

Now I will try with only an online dictionary:

Veo la television pero estoy triste porque todos los canalles de television son muy mal al esto momento. No me gusta nada porque todo es tan aburrido.

Now with an online translator tool and dictionary:

I never answer to the people who registers to ask for a translation and not to try to do his own translation, specially I don't answer to the people who registers the same day that asks for the translation; but this time I will do an exception.

This is the Spanish translation for your poem, it has also rhyme in Spanish, there is some change of word in order that the rhyme was possible. I hope that your gf doesn't erase you of her heart.
