Â¡Hola!

Sorry but I'm a little bit confused. Maybe there is a case that my Spanish books are wrong but isn't imperfecto a pretÃ©rito at the same time? I mean, the correct names for the both tenses are: pretÃ©rito imperfecto and pretÃ©rito indefinido. Isn't that right? Finally, I'm learning from the books edited and printed in Spain (edelsa Grupo Didascalia S.A.)... Still, are they mistaken?

imperfect is past continuous

as we say in I "used to love " that is amaba

For example, Luis tenÃa sÃ³lo 10 aÃ±os cuando viajÃ³ a Colombia.
IMPERFECT PAST is used when the past action is not yet finished because some other action in the past happened ( ...cuando viajÃ³ a COLOMBIA)
THE SIMPLE PAST the action started and finsihed into the past.
If you useTUVE 10 aÃ±os no further action can happen in Spanish.
Yo tuve tambiÃ©n 10 aÃ±os PERIOD. ( ...cuando viajÃ© a COLOMBIA) WRONG.

Las fabricas causaban contaminaciÃ³n en el aire. Los cielos se veÃan ocscuros y grises. No habÃa mucho sol en el centro de la ciudad. Por eso se murieron las palmeras. La contaminaciÃ³n causaba lluvia Ã¡cida que destruye el medioambiente. Los Ã¡rboles no tenÃan suficiente agua. I made a couple of changes, you should try to join the sentences and, write the accents, please. :)

I took out all the accents in hopes my post wouldn't show up with all the smilie faces, but it didnt really work. Good thing they're cute. hahah

There's no accents. Except that, I only see a few errors: the trees (palms, I suppose) aren't "los palmeros", but "las palmeras". If you say "los palmeros" you refers to the people who hits his palms at a "Flamenco Show", and in fact, it's a pity they died by contamination. They had to smoke less.. ;-)

There's too "las floristas tienden..", that must be "los jardineros atienden.."; and "noy hay los carros..", that would be "no hay carros.." in South America or "no hay coches.." in Spain.

Anyway, I understand it with no problem, and the mistakes aren't too evident. Go on, you're doing it well.

Las fabricas causaban contaminacion del aire. Los cielos veian ocsuros y grisas. No habia mucho sol en el centro de la ciudad. Por eso se murieron los palmeros. La contaminacion causaba lluvia acida que destruye el medioambiente. Los arboles no tenian suficiente agua. Habia mucho transito en el centro que hacia mucho ruido y contaminacion del aire. No habia suficientes basureros y habia mucha basura en todas partes. Hoy en dia laciudad en muy diferente. La ciudad ha mejorado mucho. Hay un jardin publico. Las floristas tienden a las flores todos los dias. Noy hay los carros y las ciudad tiene las calidad de aire buena. Noy hay contaminacion del aire y los palmeros eastn saludables. Hay suficientes basureros y las ciudad esta un sitia mejor.

Did I make any major mistakes?
