Buenos dias a todos,

tengo una duda sobre la oracion siguiente:

"Si no hubiera pegado contra la misma silla dos o tres veces durante la misma semana, ella nunca se hubiera dado cuenta." (If she hadn't hit..., she would not have..."). If this is not the correct translation in English could you pls write it down so that I could see the difference.

Now, isn't the construction suppose to be:

"Si no hubiera pegado (hadn't hit)..., ella nunca se HABRIA DADO cuenta(would not have noticed)...?" - Is this construction of the sentence possible or am I making new Spanish here?Big Smile

I am sure that there is a difference it's just that I cann't see it. I would appreciate some help, 'cause these conditional clauses and sequency of tenses are killing me!!!

Gracias a todos! (Now I remembered: I found it the Internet "Grazias" as well. Are both versions correct or just one? I think "Syl" corrected me and I am grateful for that, if I make a mistake I would like you to correct it, it's just that I found both versions so I was just wondering...

"Si no hubiera pegado .. ella nunca se habría dado cuenta" is correct according to all grammar books. BUT: many people especially in Latinamerica use also the other version, maby because of ignorance, maybe because the language has evolutioned and now this is correct...??
And: only gracias is correct in Spanish. There are so many things floating in internet!

Thank you very much Isabel, you made me feel better. The "if-clauses" have just become clear to me and when I read the sentence I thought I would faint. But, it's ok now.

Thanks
