Trouble with verb + a + another verb

Hola, I'm having trouble with placing "a"s after certain verbs when they are the first verb in the sentence. For example, I know it goes after ir. ex: Voy a ir a la playa. But not after gustar. ex: Me gusta jugar al tennis. My question is does it go after every verb except gustar, like pensar, querrer, poder.. That subject is a little fuzzy for me so any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

The presposition a doesn't go all the verbs. The sentence you have put it's called perífrasis: verb + a + infinitive. Here are some verbs that use this pattern:
ir a
echar a
pasar a
ponerse a
empezar a
lanzarse a
llegar a
Other verbs use other prepositions:
acabar de
terminar por
deber de
