Is it simply because there’s just something special about the Spanish
language that makes me feel compelled to learn it? Or is it
because the slightest trace of Spanish blood that runs through my veins
aches to find its way back to its origin?
There can be no doubt--I am an absolute beginner in Spanish. My
knowledge of it is merely confined to the few words tossed around and
intertwined with my own native language, thanks to the Spaniards who
chose to make their presence known in this part of the world, at least
in the past.
I am ecstatic to find that such forum actually exists. Though I
can surf around and ask questions, I’ll pick up a few words and
hopefully remember them, enough for me to be useful in the
future. This has got me thinking, what’s the best way to
learn? Using the language to communicate with someone on a
regular basis should be a good start, don’t you think?
Now, there’s a slim chance that I’d find someone who’d want to trade
stories with me and help me learn Spanish in the process but I see that
small window of opportunity here, now. What’s in it for
you? Well, you’ll learn more about this part of the world that
you only get to read in the paper or hear in the 8 o’clock news.
You’ll learn about this place’s culture (or its lack of it). You
might even win a friend. At the very least, you’d be able to help
someone who really wants to learn Spanish.
