Do the Spanish help much when you're learning?

If I walk into a bar in Spain and try to speak Spanish, will the average Spaniard help me out? I know it's a silly question, and very general,  but it's something beginners worry about!!

If you enter in a bar in Spain I don't think you will be worried about the language but about what to pick from so many varied delicious "tapas".

Yes, don't worry, I'll help you out. :D

The more you have to drink (and I'm talking about the alcoholic stuff, not chocolate milk), the less inhibitions you feel so you are more likely to be open and try and communicate to the people.

When your shyness goes away, you can get along with most people at many bars around the world, not just Spain. When I have been in Spain, I have never had any problems in bars (just the next morning with a hangover).
