En realidad no se de a donde sacan el "así así" o el "sin más." Nunca eh escuchado a alguien decir eso. No hacen sentido.

Yo diría "más o menos" para "so-so"

Ana: ¿Qué tal estás?
Luís: Más o menos..

Honestly, if someone answered me that way, I would say "¿Qué?". "Más o menos" is translated as "more or less", isn't it?

You are right: "más o menos" is translated as "more or less."

However, "más o menos" is an idiom and it is the "right" translation for "so-so."

In addition, Más o menos can also mean "almost."

Hello Auser!
¿Te gustó la película?
mmm... más o menos....
¿Cómo estás?
En realidad más o menos, el día estuVo pesado.
You wanted me to look at these two examples, didn't you?

It still doesn't make any sense to me.

- ¿Cómo estás?
- Más o menos. (Estoy más o menos) ??

Anyway, maybe it's common in other parts of the world, who knows?

Pucca,

What I wanted for you to get out of his post was, ".... In spanish we say 'mas o menos'... "

I know that is not really logical to say "más o menos" but that is what people used.

Furthermore, "Sin más" tiene mucho menos sentido que "más o menos."

Saludos

Hello Auser:),

Yeah, I read the "más o menos" thing, but, maybe it's used in South America.

"Sin más" is pretty used here.

Ana: ¿Qué tal estás?
Luís: Sin más (Estoy sin más) = Podría estar mejor pero no me puedo quejar.

It would mean that for me, but, of course, who am I to make you think the way I think?

This seems to be a war, let's leave it here if you agree and let the others choose the one they prefer. Emotion: smile

Something you can reply to that is...

Estoy bein y tu?

which mean good and you..
Anonymous:
it can be asi asi or mas o menos
Yeah, I think "so and so" in English should be "so, so" but no one really says that no days.

Also, other good replies in Spanish are just "regular" if you're just in a normal mood, or "bien, todo bien" if you're doing really well. Sometimes people will even just as "Todo bien?" not "Como estás?".

I thought that was a good question anonymous. I've often not known what to say when asked "Como estas" I hope you won't mind if I turn your question into the same thing for Spanish speakers. I vaguely remember that there was a whole bunch of "amusing" answers to "how are you" for instance "Any better and I couldn't stand it." , " Gooder than gum" , [pronounced gooder thn gum or goodern gum] "Happy as a clam" [ West Coast of USA] and my favorite "Still on the green side of the grass.

May the Force be with you,
Schnahz [:^)]
