Some stuff that's confusing me

I see the words lo, se, te and ti sometimes but I don't really know what they mean or why they're there. I know te and ti mean you but why are they used instead of tú sometimes?
Also why do you say "I like the music" (Me gusta la música) but "cup of coffee" (taza de café) instead of "cup of the coffee"? I'm not sure about when to use "the".
Thanks

Lo and te are direct object pronouns, whereas se and te are indirect object pronouns. To see more , click on

Ti is more used with con, when we say contigo (with you)

As regards to the cup of coffee, I must admit I've never asked myself that question. I'm sorry but I don't have an answer for that. It just comes natural.

"The" se usa cuando se está hablando de algo específicamente.

"The" is used when you're talking about somthing specific.

En el caso de "the cup of coffee", se está hablando simplemente de una taza de café cualquiera. Pero si escriben "the cup of the coffee", se está hablando de un café del cual se habló antes en la conversación. Ejemplo: "There is a cup with coffee, and another one with tea. That is the cup of the coffee" (Aquí hay una taza con café, y otra con té. Aquella es la taza del café.)

In the case of "the cup of coffe", we are talking just about a cup of any coffee. But, it you say "The cup of the coffee", you're talking about a specific coffee the one you mentioned before. For example. "There is a cup with coffee, and another one with tea. That is the cup of coffee"

tu' is for the subject of the sentence. te is for an object.  Often you can leave out the subject, but you can't leave out the object.

Use 'the' (el, la) with the noun after 'me gusta'.  Think of it as a rule.
