ser/estar and bien/bueno

Esto es una discusión · 5 respuestas
Hi. I want to say

This year, I am very good in "X" (which is a video game), but next year I am going to be ridiculously good.

I came up with 4 possibilities I'm not sure how to choose:

1. Este año estoy muy bien en “X”, pero el año que viene voy

a estar ridículamente bien.

2. Este año estoy muy bueno en “X”, pero el año que viene voy

a estar ridículamente bueno.

3. Este año soy muy bien en “X”, pero el año que viene voy

a ser ridículamente bien.

4. Este año soy muy bueno en “X”, pero el año que viene voy

a ser ridículamente bueno.

My first choice is #4, then followed by #2. What is the best choice you think? The bien vs bueno is just a matter of I'm not sure which sounds better. The ser vs estar I'm confused if I'm saying being very good is a characteristic and so use ser, or some other category I haven't seen yet to use estar for.

The best choice is number four, because it's a skill: Soy bueno en Age of Empires.

Though I thought it would bei n English "to be good at": I'm good at sports.

Because of the context I'd choose #1. Remember that the verb ser is an stative verb, and you couldn't be soy bueno en one thing one year and ser más bueno in the same thing the other year, so the best option should be the verb estar + bien.
Estoy jugando bien al fútbol este año, pero el proximo creo que estaré jugando mejor.

You got it! Choice #4 is better and sounds good. Emotion: money

I believe you can choose either No.1 or No.2. The first one means you are satisfied with the results at 'X' but next year you would like to improve. The fourth one means that this year you are good at 'X' but next year you would like to exagerate the performance.

Hope x
