Platicar - Hablar

Is the verb Platicar only used in Mexico? Is it used in other countries in Latin America?

I know it isn't used in Chile though they know what it means. In Chile they say conversar or charlar.

Uy, que emoción con este foro, bueno en México es más común el uso de platicar y hablar. Acerca de conversar y charlar se usan muy poco.

Ejemplos:

Hace mucho que no hablamos por teléfono

¿Puedo verte el fin de semana? Necesito hablar/platicar contigo.

Hola a todos, en general en Chile es mucho más común usar "Hablar" y "Conversar" 

Para hablar de noticias o secretos decimos "copucha" (modismo) por ejemplo: "Tengo una copucha" = "Tengo una noticia"

¿Cómo dicen en sus paises?

I use charlar and platicar if I am chatting w a friend on a messanger or something. Por ejemplo estoy platicando con mi amigo Aaron!  I have noticed that some people also use hablar to tell someone to call them. My friend tells me hablame en como 15 minutos o algo. When she says this to me she is wanting me to call her.  Also some people just say llamar o marcar when talking about calling someone on the telephone!  There are various ways that people say the same word lol this is why spanish is tought at times!
