Qué quiere decir la frase destacada en la siguiente oracion?

 

"Entonces se llego a rumorear que la  Condesa tenía una aventura con

el apuesto almirante. Ella no iba a soltar prenda al respecto."

 

Un poco de curiosidad:

Por qué se usa el inverted  signo de interrogacion para introducir

una pregunta en Español ?

I think you answered your own question. It done to alert the reader the a question is being introduced. :)

"soltar prenda" significa que no iba a decir nada sobre el asunto.

En español se utiliza un signo de interrogación al principio de la oración y otro al final. Lo mismo pasa con los signos de admiración (¡!). ¡Así es la gramática española!
