What would you say are the most common and most useful verbos irregulares en espanol? It would be a waiste of time to learn some which I'll almost never use (especially now in the begining), so I'd need your advice. Gracias!

I have found myself using these the most thus far:

Must have:
ir..to go
ser..to be
estar..to be

Good ones to know:
dar..to give
dicir..to say, to tell
pedir..to ask for
poder..to be able to, can
poner..to put
querer..to want
tener..to have
venir..to come
ver..to see

May take a little time to learn (work on the others first) but won't be able to do without these:
hacer..to do, to make
haber..to have

Hope this is helpful,
Art

Well, there are a lot of irregular verbs in Spanish, and something curious is that we use them without thinking normally that they are usually difficult for foreign people. Those ones mentioned by Art, are good examples. Any doubt about conjugation, just ask us =)

And be careful, even us use to have problems with some conjugations, for example:

The verb "to come" in spanish "venir" The 2nd person of the singular in past is "viniste" and not "veniste" as is usually use. Also, almost all the other conjugations of that verb follows the same partern, beginning with "vini..." After all, that's why those verbs are called irregulars. =) Well, finally here is a link to a very interesting website about that topic, is in spanish. ¿Veniste o viniste? Check it! =) See you later. Ciao.

At the very beginning:  hacer, decir.

Soon after those you'll need all of those listed earlier in this thread and a few more, like saber.

I agree with the verbs that Art mentions.  But I also want to say:

Learn as many irregular verbs as you possibly can!  The more you learn, the easier it will be to learn even more, and you knowledge of spanish will skyrocket.
