Is the same, for example, you use "Which/Cual" to ask about a choice when you have a lot of opportunities about that and you ask to the other person, which prefer or which he/* choose. And you use "What/Que" to ask about the meaning of something, here you have some examples:
¿Cúal auto prefieres? -- Está preguntando cual auto la persona prefiere, de los muchos que tiene para elegir/escoger
¿Qué es eso? -- Está preguntando acerca del significado de alguna cosa.
