Hola Lana!

Yo pienso que sean sinónimos.

"Te entiendo, pero no te comprendo" Emotion: wink

¡No entiendo nada! Emotion: big smile
¿Puedo decir ambas las variantes: "Te entiendo, pero no te comprendo" y "Te comprendo, pero no te entiendo"? ¿Son iguales?

Y con estos:
No te comprendo.
No te entiendo.
¿Hay alguna diferencia?

I'm probably being a nerd but I'd really like to know the difference! Emotion: it wasnt me

Elwing¿cuál* es la diferencia entre "comprender" y "entender"? ¿Cuándo debo utilizar uno y cuando - el otro?

*if you use "qué es" it's like you do not understand what diferencia means or what the sentence that comes right after means/is.

Had you simply asked "qué es la diferencia" you might have recieved an answer that explains what "la diferencia" means, and that is not what you want. Emotion: smile so...: "cuál es la differencia....."

And the difference: Actually I'm not 100% sure yet either, but as far as I have understood, Comprender is something like: grasp /comprehend / conceive in english.

Thanks a lot for the explanations, Syl! I think I've got the idea. Also, thanks for correcting my original question. Emotion: embarrassed

Entender is more about understanding what you hear, or "getting" what someone is saying (or writing).

- no se le entiende nada - you can't understand anything she says

- no hablo el alemán, pero lo entiendo - I don't speak German, but I can understand it

- ¿entiendes lo que quiero decir? - do you know what I mean?

- yo no te entiendo la letra - I can't read your writing

Comprender is understanding a concept or idea or reasons behind something (on a deeper level).

- ¿entiendes lo que quiero decir? - do you know what I mean?
- entonces comprendió que lo habían engañado - he realized then that he had been tricked

(Examples from Oxford Spanish Dictionary)

Hope this helps!
