Hi I seriousely want to start learning spanish on my own now, not really learning how to speak it, but understanding and reading.

I figured buying books with vocabulary and grammer exersises would be the best way to start... now does anyone know of good books that would make the start easy?

Thanks for your help!

Hi

In my opinion you really don't need books to start learning Spanish. You can find Spanish to English online dictionaries. Take simple Spanish article and try to understand it with the help of these dictionaries. You can play the sound to learn how to say it in Spanish.

Following is the links which will help you start learning Spanish.

//www.iana.org/ipaddress/ip-addresses.htm Dictionary

You can also find free software downloads on internet.

You could try the FSI language courses (Spanish). I hear they are useful.

Does anyone else have experience with those?

Hello,

I just bought Berlitz New Basic Spanish which includes 3 CDs, a course book, an audioscript and a learners guide...

We shall see how quickly and well I learn Spanish with that! For any other book suggestions I would be thankfull as well!

I would recon that childrens books would be a great thing to start off with... something like "my fist 1000 words" to get some vocabulary done Wink

I agree. Children Books are always good to start with. They don't use 'difficult' vocabulary, usually the essential words that are normally used in every day life (apart from the odd dragon or purple flying cow that we don't use that much ;) ). Kiddies authors are not normally out to use wonderful poetic sentence structures with double / hidden meanings or similar. Kids tend to get bored when it gets too complex, so the authors use only what it necessary, hence the vocabulary that you need to know.

Besides, they're a lot of fun too!
