Is this a commonly used phrase?  I think it means the same as asking, ¿Cómo está usted.

I would say it depends on what Spanish you are learning. :)

- ¿Cómo se encuentra usted? - In Spain it would sound a bit weird if you are asking it to a friend unless you are "joking" with that friend. Anyway, if you are a nurse, for example, you can ask it to the patient so, it would be more like "¿Cómo se encuentra hoy?".

Yep, you are right, ¿Cómo se encuentra usted? and ¿Cómo está usted? have no diference at all.

Here we ask, ¿Cómo te encuentras?, ¿Cómo estás?, ¿Qué tal? and so on.

Hope it helps!

¿Alguna vez has tenido un sueño tan real que al despertarte no sabías qué creer?

Thank you, Pucca, for your helpful reply to my question.  I am using a CD course I purchased and it tries somewhat to point out the differences found in the way Spanish is spoken in South America as compared to Spain.  I am in Missouri, USA, and most of the Spanish speaking people here are from South America.

Hey McGreg!:)

That is very nice, but, be careful and don't mix things!

If you are learning the Spanish of South Americe, then, I would say that my answer doesn't make much sense.

¿Cómo se encuentra? and ¿Cómo está? - Are the correct ones and, as I've said before, there is not much diference between them!

Good luck!
